Step Yo' Game Up!

Another week in fantasy is done, and I’m guessing you lost in all three leagues, again. Want to know where you went wrong? The game is simple and I’ll find you some studs to round out your roster as you make a playoff push. It’s simple, I’ll make a team full of players owned in less than 30% of leagues this week(according to ESPN Fantasy Football) and out perform you “fantasy” team. Scoring, like ownership, is as listed by ESPN.com. Teams consist of one quarterback, two running backs, three receivers, a defense, and a kicker. So without further ado, let’s see where you went wrong.
QB – Rex Grossman
With a moniker like Sexy Rexy, he’s unlikely to disappoint. With 289 yards and 1 TD through the air, and another 10 yards and a TD on the ground, Grossman tallied 24 this week. It appears Grossman has the Redskins geared up for another deep playoff run.
RB - Kevin Smith
Smith was a standout at Central Florida. As a junior, he set the NCAA record for carries in a season with 450. That’s a whopping 45 more than USC’s Marcus Allen did in 1981. Smith was drafted by the Lions the following April only to be cut this off-season. He was resigned by the lions after a failed trade attempt at the trade deadline and an injury to Best helped Smith find the starting line up again. He made the most of it with 140 yards and 2 TDs on the ground and 61 yards and a TD via the passing game helped Smith top all other backs this week with 38 points.
RB – Chris Ogbonnaya
Like Smith, Ogbonnaya was cut and resigned, only to a different squad. This Texan turned Brown totaled 18 points after topping the one hundred yard mark and finding the end-zone for the struggling Browns.
WR- Jabar Gaffney
Did I mention who his quarterback is? Well that explains how he managed to haul in 7 of 10 targets for 115 yards and a TD. The poised pocket passing of Grossman most assuredly benefited Gaffney this week. His 17 point performance should therefore be no surprise. I should note that Gaffney is owned in a quarter of all ESPN leagues, second on this list, and edging out Mr. Grossman’s 7.3%.
WR- Riley Cooper
Philadelphia’s Riley Cooper managed 13 fantasy points this week after finding the end-zone and nabbing 75 yards. The former teammate/roommate of the Tim Tebow found the field after Maclin was ruled inactive. Maybe the fact that Cooper’s 5 catches on Sunday night are his only of the season helps explain why he is own in less than 1 % of all EPSN leagues.
WR - Donte Stallworth
Please don’t mistake me for a Skins homer, but I wanted to highlight another one of Grossman’s targets. Stallworth’s 11 points with a game tying TD could be his last for awhile. I know what your thinking, “Grossman is back and this offense is roaring”, but when Moss is healthy again, Stallworth will see his .1% ownership drop.
TE - Tom Crabtree
This Green Bay tight end’s six points off a touchdown from Aaron Rodgers really isn’t news. With Rodgers slinging the ball so efficiently and effectively, I’m sure I could manage a touchdown if you got us close enough and my hands didn’t blister on impact.
DEF- Seattle
The Seahawk’s defense gained 17 points by holding the Ram’s sputtering offense to 7 points and causing three touchdowns. We’re past the midpoint of the season and that means it’s a great time to play against a Josh McDaniels team.
K- Dan Rayner
You already have 146 points, here’s another 8 from Buffalo’s kicker.
So there you have it, 154 points from a team with players averaging ownership in 6% of leagues. Now go snag Rex Grossman and salvage your playoff chances.
